MVCC Offers Online Platform To Connect People With In-Demand Jobs – Patch.com

PALOS HILLS, IL — Moraine Valley Community College has partnered with SkillPointe, a new national online platform that helps connect students and job seekers to training and employment opportunities in skills-based industries with talent shortages. Moraine Valley offers training for many of the careers showcased on the platform.

“You can explore in-demand career paths in a variety of industries,” said Steve Pappageorge, executive director of Moraine Valley’s Corporate, Community and Continuing Education subdivision. “Once you’ve settled on a career path, the platform helps you find the necessary training.”

People interested in exploring skills-based careers can learn about the job responsibilities, salaries and training needed to enter well-paying careers from several industries, including health care, manufacturing, information technology, public service and more, by visiting the SkillPointe. “It links people who need training or educational credentials to get in-demand jobs with a local community college or training provider,” Pappageorge said.

Moraine Valley features many degree, certificate and noncredit certificate programs on the platform. “This partnership benefits our community by helping those interested in getting training to find it quickly, so they can begin their career journey faster. We want to connect people with a program to get them started on their academic path, so they can achieve their career goals,” Pappageorge said.

The League for Innovation in the Community College, an international organization that promotes innovation in community colleges, helped identify institutions that could be featured on the website.

“SkillPointe provides a crucial platform that connects job seekers and job changers with a pathway to a new career,” said Dr. Rufus Glasper, president and CEO of the League for Innovation in the Community College. “Given the challenges schools have faced with COVID-19, this new marketing platform also will help schools attract new students.”

The website also features thousands of job openings across the country that require a skills-based credential rather than a four-year degree.

“There are growth industries that have immediate talent shortages where people with the right training and credentials can find employment in a relatively short amount of time,” Pappageorge said. “We want to make sure people know what Moraine Valley offers, and we are here to help them on their journey.”
